Join us for classic films and cocktails! Every other week we offer up a double feature of genre films, and your ticket includes popcorn and your first drink. Sept. 28 Angel and the Badman/The Santa Fe Trail These two westerns define the genre; John Wayne is tamed by the love of a good woman in Angel & the Badman, and Errol Flynn & Ronald Reagan find time to woo Olivia DeHavilland while fighting on the wrong side in Kansas' violent John Brown era in The Santa Fe Trail. Oct. 12Royal Wedding/Second Chorus Fred Astaire partners with Jane Powell as a dancing double act taking London by storm in Royal Wedding, and Paulette Goddard as the hi-jinks leader of a dance band in Second Chorus (also features Artie Shaw). Oct. 26 Night of the Living Dead/Plan 9 from Outer Space Pre-Halloween cult film double feature: Director George Romero invented the zombie movie with Night of the Living Dead, and Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space, guest starring Bela Lugosi (who had already died before the film was made!), has been called "the worst movie ever made." Nov. 9 The General/The Gold Rush A pair of silent classics: Starring the great stone face, Buster Keaton's The General is often rated one of the best American movies ever made, and Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush helped to re-define American cinema. Nov. 23 The Man With the Golden Arm/Reefer Madness Two great works of anti-drug propaganda: Frank Sinatra struggles and ultimately succombs to heroin in The Man With the Golden Arm, and a strenuous attempt to terrify Americans about what will happen if their teens smoke weed make Reefer Madness a comedic cult classic. Dec. 7Beat the Devil/Charade Comedy & adventure combine in Beat the Devil (starring Humphry Bogart and Gina Lollabrigida), often called a parody of the Maltese Falcon, and Charade (starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn), a whodunnit with a race to the finish. Dec. 21It’s A Wonderful Life/Santa Claus Conquers the Martians It wouldn't be Christmas without Frank Capra's classic story of George Bailey and his guardian angel in It's A Wonderful Life, but we hope you'll join us in taking things a little less seriously with Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, a stupefying sci-fi trip that features the first appearance of Mrs. Claus on film!
